At the GeForce Gaming Event 3 days ago, Nvidia announced a new line of graphics cards including the RTX 2080Ti, RTX 2080 and RTX 2070. The graphics cards are based on the new Turing architecture and use RT-cores for 'Ray tracing'. These RT-cores would make it possible use realtime ray tracing in games.
Several games were announced that partly use the RTX technology for rendering shadow and light effects. Among these games were Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Metro Exodus and Battlefield V. Nvidia also introduced 'Tensor Cores' into the new architecture, providing artificial intelligence that'll be used in upscaling and anti-aliasing technics.

Nvidia made some slides available including a slide with some comparisons between the GTX1080 and RTX2080, according to these slides the RTX2080 seems to be 50 to 100% faster than the GTX1080. Nvidia claims that the RTX2080 is able to play many games in 4K with more than 60fps.
On the slides, the two cards are compared in games like Final Fantasy XV, Hitman II and Shadow of War. Some games support Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS), making the RTX2080 even faster. DLSS makes use of the new Tensor Cores that use artificial intelligence to interpolate pixels to achieve a higher framerate.
